Frequently Asked Questions

  • The initial consultation is your chance to get to know me and ask questions about my expertise, what sessions will look like together and help you decide whether you feel that the relationship is the "right fit".

I might ask you questions like:

    • “Do you have any previous experiences with therapy?”

    • "What are some goals you'd like to work on?"

    • “How will we know if therapy is successful?”

If it doesn’t feel like the right fit, I’d be happy to provide a referral if possible to help you get the care you need.

  • Yes, for the most part.

Confidentiality is an incredibly important aspect of therapy, as it creates safety for you to share your story. Everything that we discuss during our time together will stay between you and I.

With that said, as a Registered Psychotherapist there are certain situations in which I am legally obligated to break confidentiality. These include:

    • If there is risk of harm to a child under the age of 16,

    • If you have imminent intent of harming yourself or someone else, and

    • If my records are subpoenaed by a court order

When we meet for the first time, I will provide you with a copy of my limits of confidentiality and answer any questions you may have.

  • Yes. My practice uses Jane App practice management software to safely store all client personal health information, book appointments, and host secure video sessions. The Jane App is congruent with the Personal Health and Information Protection Act of Ontario (PHIPA).

  • Coverage for Registered Psychotherapists is included within many health insurance plans, but not all. I encourage you to check-in with your insurance provider before booking just to be sure. Receipts will be provided after each session for your records, and to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

If you are a student, check with your school’s current health & dental plan to see if coverage is provided for Registered Psychotherapists.

  • I recognize that the cost of therapy sessions can sometimes get in the way of being able to access support. As I value accessibility, I do offer a limited number of sliding scale spaces for individuals facing economic hardship and without health insurance.

  • Therapy rarely looks like what it does in the movies. A therapy session often feels like a conversation with a really good listener, someone who is un-biased and helps you to feel safe to talk about things that maybe you’ve never felt comfortable sharing before. The first couple of sessions are usually spent getting to know one another, exploring your overall story, discussing what you’re struggling with and establishing preliminary goals for our time together - if you don’t quite know yet, that’s okay too.

  • Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. The overall length of therapy however, depends on your personal goals, needs and circumstances. It can take some time for you to get to know your therapist, and for your therapist to get to know you, as well as to get to the root of the “problem.” On average, you can expect to see a therapist for at least 6-8 sessions to see considerable benefits and long term changes.

  • Your appointment time is created and held just for you. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are charged the full session fee, and appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are charged 50% of the session fee.
